BlueSky: The NEW social kid everyone’s talking about
Let’s break down this buzzy new platform that’s got everyone wondering if it’s time to jump ship from X (formerly Twitter, because apparently that needed to be more confusing 😅).
What’s The Deal?
Remember Jack Dorsey, Twitter’s founder? Well, he looked at the current social media landscape and thought “we can do better.” Enter BlueSky: a platform launched in 2023 that promises to give users more control over their digital presence.
The Tech Bit (in normal human speak)
They’re using something called ATP (Authenticated Transfer Protocol), which basically means you own your data and can move it around different servers without losing your social media life. Think of it like being able to take your entire Instagram feed and move it to another platform – pretty cool, right?
Why People Are Loving It
While X (formerly Twitter) feels like it’s becoming the reality TV show of social media, BlueSky is positioning itself as the grown-up alternative. And people are here for it – they’ve jumped from 13 million users in October to 21 million in November 2024!
Should Your Business Join?
It’s a YES if:
• You’ve got time to play with a new platform
• Your audience is making the switch
• You’re in it for the long game
It’s a NO if:
• Your plate is already full (I see you, busy business owner!)
• You need quick ROI
• Your content strategy is working fine as is
• You’re not sure about the platform’s staying power
Real Talk:
As someone who helps businesses nail their digital presence, I’m always excited about new platforms. But I’m also practical – sometimes less is more. Right now, I’m focusing on helping my clients excel on their existing platforms rather than adding another to the mix.
Your Turn:
Have you taken the BlueSky plunge? Or are you watching from the sidelines?
