Instagram’s “Edits” App Is Coming (And It’s FREE!)

Remember that “Edits” app Instagram kept teasing us with back in March? The one that never actually showed up? (Classic Instagram… as reliable as Ross Geller’s “we were on a break” excuse 🙄)

Well, Insta-chief Adam Mosseri just spilled the tea that “Edits” is “getting really close” and should drop within the next couple of weeks! A select group of creators are already beta testing what’s essentially Instagram’s answer to CapCut.

The BEST news? This app won’t cost you a penny! Mosseri confirmed:

“[Edits] will be free. I think over time, we might have some paid features where we’re going to need to cover costs of things, like compute for big AI features. But in general, we want to create as many features that are free as possible…”

Translation: The basic version is free, but they might charge for fancy AI features later.

Instagram has already previewed some exciting features coming to the app, including AI-generated backgrounds and still image animation. Based on what Mosseri shared, it looks like Meta might be developing even more advanced AI elements specifically for Edits rather than the main Instagram app.
