Why I’m Saying Goodbye to Facebook (and Soon, Instagram)

Why I’m Saying Goodbye to Facebook (and Soon, Instagram)

After years of showing up, posting consistently, and engaging daily, I’ve made a big decision: I’ve deactivated my Facebook page, and next week I’ll be doing the same with my Instagram profile.

It’s not a decision I’ve made lightly. These platforms have been part of my business journey for years. But here’s why I’ve decided to step away for now.

1. They’re Too Time Consuming

Creating, scheduling, and engaging on Facebook and Instagram can easily eat up hours every week. Hours that, as a business owner, I could be spending on higher-impact activities — client work, strategy, or creating new offers.

2. The Scroll Is a Trap

I’ll be honest. These platforms are designed to keep you scrolling. One minute I’m checking comments, the next I’ve lost 20 minutes watching unrelated reels. It’s not productive, and it’s not aligned with how I want to work.

3. My Ideal Clients Aren’t There

After reviewing my analytics, it’s clear: my ideal clients — ambitious women in professional services — aren’t spending their time on Facebook or Instagram in the way that would make these platforms worthwhile for me.

4. Little Interaction on Facebook

Despite consistent posting, engagement on my Facebook page has been minimal. When conversations aren’t happening and connections aren’t being built, it’s time to reassess whether the effort matches the return.

5. High Traffic, Zero Leads

In the last 30 days, my Instagram profile had 15.2k visits. Do you know how many leads that brought in? None. And this was despite nurturing and engaging every single day. That told me everything I needed to know.

6. Focusing on What Works

Right now, LinkedIn and Pinterest are delivering better visibility, more engagement, and actual leads. That’s where my ideal audience is hanging out, so that’s where I’ll be focusing my energy.

Will I Ever Go Back?

Never say never. Social media changes constantly, and what isn’t working now could be a goldmine in the future. But for the moment, it’s goodbye to Facebook and Instagram.

If you’ve been pouring time into platforms that aren’t bringing you results, maybe it’s time to ask yourself: Are you showing up where your clients are, or where you’ve always been told you should be?

💬 I’d love to hear your thoughts. Have you stepped away from a social platform for your business? Did it make a difference?
