Beyond The Design - Kilt Couture

Beyond The Design - Kilt Couture

Every so often, a project comes along that feels like more than just design, it feels like storytelling. Working with Kilt Couture, founded by certified kiltmaker Judith Pegram, was exactly that.

Kilt Couture is no ordinary fashion business. It’s a premier Scottish heritage atelier, specialising in bespoke tartan and tweed garments that balance tradition with modern expression. Judith’s philosophy, her “fingerprint in fabric” approach, ensures that every piece is as unique as the person wearing it. My role was to take that same philosophy and translate it into a visual identity that would resonate deeply with her audience.

The Creative Process

From our very first Discovery Call, Judith’s passion for Scottish heritage and meticulous craftsmanship was clear. My goal was to design a brand identity that could:

  • Reflect the authenticity and precision of traditional kiltmaking.
  • Convey luxury and exclusivity without losing approachability.
  • Celebrate bold individuality, one of Kilt Couture’s core values.
  • Stand strong in Scotland, Yorkshire, and on a global stage.

The result is a brand system that feels both classic and contemporary, weaving together heritage and innovation.

Logo & Typography

The Kilt Couture logo was designed to be elegant yet memorable. A delicate needle motif was integrated into the typography, symbolising the precision and artistry of handcrafting. The font choice balances heritage sophistication with modern refinement, ensuring versatility across digital and print platforms.

Colour Palette & Patterns

The palette draws inspiration from tartans and Scottish landscapes - deep greens, earthy tones, and rich accents that reflect tradition while feeling bold. A secondary pattern system was developed, featuring iconic Scottish motifs like thistles, Stags, Highland cattle, and dogs, adding layers of storytelling.

Visual Storytelling

Beyond the logo and palette, the identity system extends to social media templates, marketing materials, and brand textures. This consistency ensures that every client touchpoint - from a website (coming soon) to a social feed - feels unmistakably “Kilt Couture.”

The Client’s Perspective

Here’s what Judith had to say about the process:

Jade has listened to my story and heard more than I thought I had to say about my brand, and she has brought my business to life in abundance! Every aspect of my journey with her has been amazing, from my initial Discovery Call through to the outstanding and awesome end result. I can see the passion and commitment that Jade gave to me, as she would anyone asking for her help and professional creativity. She is truly brilliant at her work, and I would recommend her without a shadow of a doubt; my business is definitely basking in the light of her glory, and I am so very full of gratitude to Jade!

The Outcome

Kilt Couture now has a brand identity that:

  • Speaks to its Scottish heritage while standing out in the luxury fashion sector.
  • Appeals to clients seeking craftsmanship, tradition, and individuality.
  • Positions the business for its long-term vision of becoming a global hallmark of bespoke Scottish attire.

For me, it was an honour to help bring Judith’s vision to life. Branding isn’t just about design, it’s about capturing the soul of a business. With Kilt Couture, that soul shines through in every detail. I may also have purchased a cape because I couldn't resist! I'm sure I will be buying more apparel from Judith in the near future.

Beyond The Design isn’t just about what I create, it’s about celebrating the clients who dare to dream boldly. And Judith’s dream, stitched into every fold of tartan, is now matched with a brand identity that will carry Kilt Couture into the future.
